About the BellaOnline Stepparenting Editor

Shadra Bruce is a freelance editor and writer specializing in stepparenting, blended families, and gifted children. Her writing experience includes 2.5 years co-authoring "A More Perfect Union" with her husband Dave (for The Leader newspaper in Corning, New York) and one year as a Go-To Mom for ClubMom, Inc; she is a contributing writer for InTheMotherhood.com.

Shadra works as a freelance AP editor for a major marketing firm in Seattle and manages a French survey panel for a research company in Ohio. You can find her articles on various websites, as well as in online and print publications.

Of all of her endeavors, motherhood gives her the most pleasure. Her marriage to Dave in 1999 resulted in the addition of three wonderful kids – Derek, now 21, and Kira and Kyle, now 18. She and Dave had Parker, now age 8 and Anika, now 5, to complete their family. Raising kids in a blended family and meeting the challenges that are inherent in stepparenting have given her insight into the struggles most families face in today´s blended-family culture.

Shadra has a BA in Economics from Alfred University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is currently pursuing her MA in English Literature at Mercy College. She and her family make their permanent home in Bath, New York.
