Barbara´s interest in HIV/AIDS began in the late 1980s when some of her gay male friends were dying of a mysterious illness. She began volunteering as a buddy, progressed to serving on the board of directors of an HIV/AIDS organization. Barbara has worked as an HIV Testing Counselor at a family planning clinic and is currently the Communications Director at CARES, an HIV/AIDS Service Organization serving 11 counties in Southwest Michigan.
