About the BellaOnline Charity Editor

My passion for writing, and for helping others, has been growing since I was a child. I have a sister who is mentally retarded, and I believe that has enabled me to always think of ways to help those less fortunate than myself. In my youth, I was an active Girl Scout and Key Club member. My interest in writing goes back to my childhood love of poetry and my desire to write meaningful stories like the author who most inspired me – O. Henry.

I went on to follow a career in public relations, which enabled me to pursue my love of the written word further. Many of my past professional positions also gave me great opportunities to combine my love of charity with my love of writing. For instance, I served as the Director of The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a program that honors the top youth volunteers in every state and the top ten youth volunteers in the nation. In the time I spent working on that program, I met numerous young people who inspired me with their charity-mindedness. Today, as an independent writer and consultant, I have twenty years of experience. I hope to become a published author soon, as I have written several children’s manuscripts that are yearning to join other classic books on the library shelves.

Today, I am the mother of three beautiful children and so I have shifted my focus in an attempt to share with my children what I’ve learned about helping others. Not only have we participated in various programs, like holiday giving trees, and food bank collections, but we’ve taken it a step further. At the urging of my then seven-year-old daughter, we created a program called “Birthday Buddies,” which provides a complete birthday celebration for the children living at a local shelter. I also provide pro-bono marketing assistance to the shelter, and am an active volunteer Girl Scout leader.

I love to write, and I love to help others. I can’t imagine a better opportunity to share that with others than as the Charity Editor for BellaOnline. I am thrilled to offer you my insights into the world of giving back, and look forward to your thoughts and suggestions.
