About the BellaOnline Classical Music Editor

At the age of seven, I started piano lessons. At the age of thirteen, my piano was in storage for the summer, and so my mother bought me my first recorder. Later that year, I acquired a guitar. I spent most of high school trying to decide if I wanted to be a writer or musician; the small size of my hands and the perils of freelancing ultimately suggested that teaching would be a more appropriate way to support myself. However, I have continued to listen to great music and to make it a part of my life. Forty years later, my love for symphonies, quartets, opera, and ballet music remains strong, and I continue to listen in the car, on the stereo, and at concerts. This area may be an avocation rather than a profession, but it is still one of the great loves of my life.
I am blessed to be able to combine my love for classical music with my writing and teaching abilities. I have a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and advanced degrees in both English and in Education. I have taught high school for twenty-eight years and have written in various genres for the last thirty-five. While my poetry has seen publication both in print and on the web, I have surprisingly grown to embrace nonfiction writing and journalism as my primary format. My nonfiction has been published in local newspapers and on the Web.
When I’m not writing or listening to music, you can find me working out, taking yoga classes, or knitting. I also like to hang out at home with my husband, my foster daughter, and my two ‘feathered children’, a cockatiel and a lovebird. I love to read novels, history, and fashion magazines. I also love to hike and to swim.
I am excited to be able to take my love of classical music and share it with you through my journalistic and creative writing skills. I also look forward to meeting you in the forums and exchanging ideas with you. If there is anything that you wish me to research and share with you, please mention it in the forums and I will do my best to comply! I hope to make the Classical Music site at BellaOnline an exciting, enriching experience for everyone who visits.
