Currently, I teach career development courses at a college in Virginia. Previously, I have worked as an academic advisor, admissions representative, career advisor, and high school counselor. Over the years, I have worked for a community college, a university, a for-profit college and a high school. As a high school counselor, I helped students prepare for college. I find great satisfaction in assisting students navigate through their college experiences and prepare for their life after college.
I have a BA from the Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) and an MEd in higher education from the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. I received my school counseling license from the state of North Carolina through coursework completed at East Carolina University.
In addition to writing article for for students and prospective students, I have written articles for educational professionals. Other titles by Susan D. Bates:
Counseling Skills for Academic Advisers
Career Advising: What Academic Advisers Need to Know
The Virtual Career Center: Creating a Career Center in a Virtual Classroom
Donīt Forget the Details: A Call for Balance in Academic Advising
