I have practiced Gynecology for over 15 years and have taken care of women of all ages and from all over the world. It has been a privilege to care for these women and help them through difficult and stressful times. I have learned so much and hope I have in turn imparted some knowledge or advise that has been useful along the way.
One of the biggest barriers to receiving ideal health care is low health literacy. Many people lack the knowledge required to navigate the health system successfully. I can see this in many of my patient interactions. Some do not know what questions to ask or even how to describe their problems. Others have limited understanding of anatomy or other common gynecologic problems making counseling on treatment options quite difficult. At each encounter, I try to provide advice or suggestions to help improve their experience and to teach them how to get the most out of their visits. Those who have a better understanding of their problems, those who correctly follow the instructions provided by their doctors and those who make truly informed choices usually receive higher quality care and tend to be more satisfied with the services provided.
My goal for this site is to provide information that will help improve the health literacy of each reader. Hopefully, this will allow you to navigate the health care system in a more efficient and productive manner. Educated consumers are better equipped to utilize health care resources to their advantage. I hope the information provided will help you to make wise choices, so that each of you may:
