Hello and welcome to Nursing at BellaOnline, my name is Lorraine Hover (pronounced as over with an H). I am proud and excited to be your BellaOnline.com Nursing Forum Editor. I have been in nursing, in one way or another since I was 15 years old when I started as a nursing assistant, became an RN student and then became an RN at the age of 21. I am currently a nursing educator both online and classroom in a program designed for associate degree RN´s to achieve their bachelor degree. I am also a student myself, pursuing my PhD in nursing so that my future in nursing can be wide open.

I am passionate about nursing and can´t think of a better profession in the entire world. I often tell people that nursing is not what I do, but it is who I am. There is no way to be a former nurse, you always are a nurse, even if retired! I had the privilege of being taught by Benedictine nuns when I earned my bachelor´s degree. I was told that "Nurse´s hands do God´s work here on Earth". No matter what religion (or no religion) you are, I believe you can relate to this quote. For me, when I care for others I am able to touch that person and impact their lives; the effect being far greater than the sum of my efforts. It is truly the diversity of nurses which give nursing its strength and its caring. The wonderful quilt of all nurses creates a beautiful, strong, and vibrant profession in which we reach out to others as only nurses can.

On a personal note, I am the proud mother of 2 grown daughters; my oldest daughter has been married about 5 years to a wonderful man who is now my dear son-in-law. I am also "Mommy" or "Grammy" to dogs and cats whom I love as members of my family.

I am active in my church and head up our Social Ministries Board. I enjoy being able to use my nursing knowledge and my passion for caring to help our church reach out to others to encourage, cheer, and to help meet some of their physical needs. We plan outreaches throughout the year to help those less fortunate.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a bit. I look forward to sharing my passion for nursing with you and for you to share your passion with me as we discuss and look at the nursing profession in all its many nuances. I hope you will come back again and again to read, to share, and to be encouraged in the best profession, nursing.
