How to Decorate a Baby Shower Party

Baby shower decorations can be as easy as a bundle of balloons, or as elaborate as centerpieces for each individual table. Decor considerations include:
  • Table cloths or covers - Use baby quilts or blankets, purchase attractive table cloths to give to the mother, or disposable covers to make clean-up a lot easier.
  • Centerpieces - Diaper cakes, flower bouquets, candles and wreaths, gift baskets and more.
  • Dishes and Serviceware - Plates, cups, and napkins can all reflect the baby shower theme.
  • Chair Bows or Seat Covers - Most hostesses only decorate the chair for the guest of honor (the mother to be). You could, however, add streamers, balloons or ribbon bows to all the chairs for a more festive effect.
  • Place Cards - With a seated meal, it might be helpful to have place cards for all the guests showing them where to sit.
  • Name Tags - Use stickers or stamps to make sure the name tags reflect the baby shower theme.
  • Gift Table Decor - At many baby showers, the guests drop their presents in a specific location when they first arrive at the party. Some balloons or streamers can make it easier for guests to find where to go.
  • Guest Book Table - As guests enter the party, they can sign a guest log and jot down their well-wishes.
  • Wall and Room Decorations - Let's not forget about making the entire room look good! Add posters that are later given to the mother, hang printed baby blankets (or a beautiful quilt), or put up some streamers to brighten the space.

Not every baby shower party will have every type of decoration set up, but hostesses should consider inexpensive, easy ways to make the room look festive and inviting.

Decorations That Are Useful
One of the ways that a baby shower host can make things easier on herself is by using the party decor as a second gift. For example, crib sheets or baby blankets can make attractive table cloths that are then given to the mother when the party is over. For a stunning, eye-catching centerpiece build a diaper cake that is also given to the mother for when the baby arrives.

Small, simple centerpieces, such as candles or flower bouquets, can be used as party favors or baby shower game prizes. The guest book sign-in pages can be in a pre-decorated photo album so the mother has an easy-to-assemble scrapbook she can create in just a few minutes after the baby is born.

Decorating With a Baby Shower Theme
The baby shower decorations are one of the main ways a hostess has to show off and get creative with the baby shower theme. Consider all the ways to tie the theme together, in posters and wall hangings, plate patterns, ribbon color, centerpieces and more. Creative containers with live plants make great table centerpieces - for example, if the theme is a fireman baby shower, use a large fireman boot with a plant in it as a centerpiece.
