Gifts for Bird Owners - Books

The gift-giving season is approaching and its time to start thinking about what to buy for your bird-owning friend or relative.

A bird owner always appreciates a good bird book. There are many species-specific books on the market, that you can take a look at. If the bird owner on your list has one of the birds that I have profiled, you can check out some of the books at the end of each article.

You can find parrot, parrakeet & conure profiles at Parrot Profiles & Links under related articles on the top right of this page and canary & finch profiles at Canary & Finch Profiles & links, also in the related articles on the right. Or you could check these from the Bird Site Map.

The Complete Pet Bird Owner's Handbook (Revised Edition) by Dr. Gary A. GallersteinThe Complete Pet Bird Owner’s Handbook is available from Avian Publications. It is written by Gary A. Gallerstein D.V.M. with chapters by Julie Rach, Pat Mulloy R.V.T, Charisse Davidson D.V.M, Stacy Stephens D.V.M and with illustrations by Nicole Perretta.

There are a few other general species books that I would recommend. I will try to put a link to as many as possible at both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca. to give you more of an option.

Guide to a Well-Behaved Parrot
Guide to a Well-Behaved Parrot by Mattie Sue Athan would be welcomed in any pet bird owner’s home.

My Parrot, My Friend
My Parrot, My Friend by Bonnie Munro Doane provides a wealth of information for parrot owners.

Why Does My Bird Do That?
Why Does My Bird Do That? by Julie Rach is another book with plenty of information.

The Second-Hand Parrot
The Second-Hand Parrot by Mattie Sue Athan & Dianalee Deter-Townsend gives excellent information to someone who obtains a bird older than a baby. Much of the information also applies to a bird when you are the first owner.

Click here for more book reviews and recommendations.

You can’t lose if you get your bird loving friend or relative a book from this selection or from the selections in the bird profile articles.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to drop by the Bird Forum anytime (see the most recent topics below).
