Finding and Using Fonts

Finding and Using Fonts
FONTS are glorious things! Choosing the right font can set the mood for your layout just as much as choosing the right color!

Word processing programs usually come with a several fonts already installed. As a matter of fact some of the previously installed fonts are necessary for computers to run correctly. See a list of DO NOT DELETE fonts. If you want a greater variety of fonts to choose from you either have to buy them from a company such as Two Peas In A Bucket, or from other places on the internet. But, the good news is that you can also find many free fonts on the internet!

You can look through the site list I have compiled under the subject Fonts or do a search on any search engine and it will bring up tons of free fonts.

Finding fonts on the internet is only one step toward getting them in your journaling on your scrapbook pages, though. After you search the internet and find a font you want, then you must download it. To download, you click the download button on the website, and then click "save" and then save it to your computer. Then you need to go into your word processing program and install the new fonts.

I use Microsoft Word, so I will give instructions using that program. First, download the font and save it to your Desktop so it will be easy to find. Then, when you download the fonts, they are somtimes zipped, and you must unzip them. Save the unzipped files to your Desktop, as well.

Now find your "Fonts" folder by doing a search of your computer's files. I have this file shortcutted on my desktop for easier access.

Open the Fonts folder.
Go to "file" in the top left corner of the window.
Click "Install New Fonts" and when the dialog box comes up, there will be a list of files on the left and you need to find where you put the font. My "Desktop" file (where I have the fonts saved) is under C:\ and then under DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS and then under OWNER and then under DESKTOP and then under that you will see the file names of the fonts you have downloaded and unzipped, click into that file and the filenames will pop up in the box above.
Select the fonts you want installed.
Click on "OK" and your fonts are installed! They will be in your drop down list in your Word program, ready to use!

When you are finished you can delete the folders and files of the downloaded fonts from your Desktop.

*I just discovered a short cut! If you have the FONTS folder on your Desktop, you can drag and drop the font files you have downloaded onto your desktop directly into the FONTS folder and this installs them immediately (if the file is not corrupted)!
