Mystic Crystal

To Native Americans, the ability to heal is a sacred calling. Among other natural means and tools used for healing by the Medicine Man or Woman or Shaman, are crystals. In healing, the natural forces of Earth are summoned through the ritual of prayers to call upon the Creator for help and guidance. Special totems and herbs or other plant parts are used. The medicine bundle of the healer contains objects of sacred meaning and spirit power and are treated with great respect.

Totems, fetishes and crystals are included in these medicine bundles. The healing is focused on harmony of the body, mind and spirit rather than on the particular illness or injury a person may have. To try to heal only the illness is to cover up the cause. Crystals can help the healer to go deeper than the actual illness and find the reason for the current problem. If treating the illness stops the pain, that is good, for now. However, when the underlying cause is found and healed then the illness itself may be relieved and may not reoccur.

To achieve total wellness, both the current illness and the cause must be treated. The healer, the Holy Person, can restore the balance, the oneness with Nature, body, mind, heart and spirit and allow us to Walk in Beauty once more. The crystals will sometimes be laid on the person's body when healing is taking place. The healer may also hold a crystal in the hand while praying to the four directions for guidance.

The crystal emits vibrations from light, the core of all creation. Each crystal has it's own energy center, or chakra, and creates a flow of energy, thereby re-energizing, or re-aligning, the chakras of the body. This brings the body back into balance. By placing crystals on different parts of the body, the healer can determine where particular blockages within the body are.

Each crystal has a specific healing power based on it's type and color. To bring calmness back to the mind, an amethyst may be used. The red-orange agate is used to energize. Bloodstones can purify the blood. Quartz crystals can be helpful in opening up the mind to locate fears, or to give one courage to face those fears.

Each crystal is intuitively chosen by the healer for the particular individual's needs. Wearing a crystal on a chain around the neck can give a person the healing powers they need at all times for specific problems.

Crystals have been used for spiritual, emotional and physical healing since before written history. Some ancient cultures believed that spirits lived inside crystals. Native American healers often do not reveal the inner knowledge and powers they know of because they believe it may interfere with or weaken their power.
