Turn Your Marketing Hate into Marketing Love
You have a business, you have customers…but you need more. There’s only one problem. You hate marketing. Why do so many business owners hate marketing? Mostly because there are so many marketing streams to choose from that it can be a bit overwhelming. You can narrow those options down by asking a few important questions.
• Who are you marketing to? Who is your audience and where do they gather? Are they online or offline or both? If offline, have you considered direct mail?
• Why is your product perfect for them? How are you helping them to solve their problems? When you’re really clear on this, be sure to tell them. “My service will help relieve the stress of …” or “my service will invigorate and challenge the status quo in your work life.”
• How do you want to connect with them? Do you want to use your social media platform to announce your services? Do you need to create a platform (the answer is yes, if you don’t have one already).
• Which marketing streams are the most enjoyable for you? Not every option is going to be the right option for you, so don’t waste your time trying them all. Activate the ones that are a good fit for you and your business. Do you like video? Do you like to write? If so perhaps a blog or creating ebooks is the best way to reach your target market. Do you like to give presentations or attend networking events? There are so many options that you don’t have to make yourself endure those that are truly painful for you. If all of your marketing efforts are painful you just won’t do them.
• What do you want to accomplish with your marketing? Customers, supporters, awareness? If you know what you want from your marketing efforts you can measure how well your strategy is working.
It’s completely normal to feel hesitant about marketing, especially if you would rather create and run a business. The only way to get over this is to accept the fact that it’s uncomfortable and do it anyway. As you start to see your sells, traffic, supporters increase it’s quite possible to turn your marketing hate into marketing love.
