Genealogical databases are wonderful tools that we can use online. While some require a subscription, there are many that are free. Many state archives, libraries, genealogy and historical societies are adding databases to their websites. I recently started collecting really useful databases from all over the United States, and some from other countries. They cover topics such as vital records, military, immigration and many other genealogical resources that we need in order to find our ancestors.
As I look at some of the links, they are not directly related to the areas that I research. But, as I look at them, I go and look to see if my society or library has something comparable to it on their website. Sometimes only the indexes are listed, but this is a great guide to find the document we need. Here are a few of the databases that I have shared during my Databases classes. I hope you are able to find one that will help you in your family history endeavors.
Do you have a database you have discovered that has proved really helpful? I would love for you to come share it with us in the genealogical forum. I also have a “Genealogical & Historical Database” page on Facebook. I would love to have you join this group and share your useful databases and see what others have shared.
