Top Five Lavender Oil Uses


Lavender oil is derived from the lovely lavender plant. Lavender is also an essential ingredient in in holistic healing and aromatherapy practice. Lavender oil smells lovely and is very refreshing to the senses. Did you know that lavender oil also has several great benefits to your health and well-being? It's true. Lavender oil has a long history that dates back thousands of years. Even the ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Romans recognized lavender's numerous benefits. Greeks used lavender oil to barter or trade. The Ancient Egyptians scented their homes with lavender perfume. Romans discovered that lavender essence was a natural healer. Today, lavender oil is a main ingredient in numerous cosmetics, beauty preparations, and body care products.

Reduce Stress. Suffer with stress? Lavender does wonders for stress. Inhaling the lavender scent is thought to reduce stress, insomnia, exhaustion, and irritability. Scent a pillow to cure insomnia. Scent a tissue and inhale the scent to further reduce stress. Scent the air with aromatherapy candles or essential oil spray to create a relaxed mood.

Eliminate Painful Headaches. Studies show that lavender essential oil diluted with alcohol and rubbed on the forehead helped to reduce headache pain. Another alternative is to add lavender essential oil to either a hot or cold compress. Press the compress against the forehead to relieve headache pain.

Treat Eczema. Eczema is a skin disease that causes itching and a rash. The skin affected might appear red and scaly. Lavender oil is thought to heal the skin. Studies show that stress causes eczema. The lavender oil works by essentially reducing stress. Thus, eliminating the eczema. Rub a bit of the lavender oil on the skin for several weeks to treat the condition.

Reduce Sunburn. Lavender oil reduces irritating itching. Mix a few drops of lavender oil with an ounce or two of olive oil. Cap in a bottle. Apply a few drops to sunburned skin daily.

Cold Sores. Cold sores are lesions that usually appear near the lips. Treat and heal a cold sore naturally with lavender oil. Dilute essential oil and apply to the affected area.
