The Addams Family (1991)

“They’re creepy and they’re spooky…” The eccentric Addams Family is just like any other family except for their taste for all things macabre and scary. The head of the family, Gomez Addams, is madly in love with his wife, Morticia, while their children, Wednesday and Pugsley, have an ongoing game of trying to annihilate the other. The only regret that Gomez has is his feud with brother, Fester, over twenty-five years ago, which resulted in the older brother leaving without any news of his whereabouts. But when the Addams’ lawyer comes up with the plan to con the family out of their fortune, he’ll stop at anything, including using a (supposed) imposter Fester to get his way. Here are a few movie mistakes to look for while watching “The Addams Family”.

· Morticia and the others find the Dragon Finger trap for the auction. Margaret puts her index fingers inside the dragon mouths on each side. They’re still there in the right side view (front of Morticia) when Morticia tells Ma-Ma to “Hush” that the auction is for widows and orphans. But when Morticia says “We need more of them”, it cuts to a left side view of her (front of Margaret) and Margaret is holding the game by both ends, her fingers out of the dragon mouths.

· When Fester first arrives at the house and Gomez walks up to him and hugs him, the rear view of Fester shows Gomez’s right arm is on top of his shoulder, near his neck. It cuts to a rear view of Gomez and his right arm is further down, on Fester’s left arm. It’s back on top of Fester’s shoulder in the next front view of Gomez and back down in the close-up of Fester just as Gomez kisses him on the cheek. Gomez’s hand is back up on his shoulder in the close-up Gomez and then back down when Abigail Craven walks up and introduces herself as Dr. Greta Pinder-Schloss.

· CAUTION: May Contain Spoilers! Fester ends up going through the slide when he tries to find the entrance to the vault and pulls the wrong chain. At the end, when he comes out the chute and lands on the ground, Fester originally comes out of the tunnel labeled “P”, which is on the left. The door labeled “W” is next to it on the right. Moriticia is waiting for him there and they walk through the graveyard. Later in the film, when Wednesday is running from Fester, she comes out of the “W” chute which is now on the left with the “P” chute on the right. Towards the end of the film, after the family has been evicted, Tully, Fester and “Dr. PInder-Schloss” come out, and the “P” chute is once again on the left and the “W” is on the right.

“The Addams Family” (1991) stars Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd, Dan Hedaya, Elizabeth Wilson, Judith Malina, Carel Struycken, Dana Ivey, Paul Benedict, Christina Ricci, Jimmy Workman, Christopher Hart and John Franklin. It runs 99 minutes and is rated PG-13 for macabre humor and some smoking.
