Tansy is a very aromatic herb that has yellow blooms. The plant was once only found in European countries. Today, it is a familiar herb grown in North America. Tansy has a long history with healing and folk medicine. The leaves and flowers of the herb are used in tea concoctions. Tansy is thought to expel worms and stimulate menstrual flow. Tansy’s strong odor is thought to repel insects and bugs. Use due caution with this herb. Might not be safe taken internally.
Tea-berry is an herb that is also known by the name wintergreen. Native Americans were the first to discover the amazing benefits associated with the herb. They brewed a tea out of the leaves to make a concoction that soothed aching limbs and joints. Early settlers in America used the tea berry potion to treat colds, headaches, and pain. Today, herbalist suggests that using wintergreen or tea-berry externally will treat swelling, soothe muscle spasms and joint pain. It is considered a good treatment because it contains methyl salicylic which is found in aspirin.
A volatile oil is obtained from the leaves that are used to treat insect bites, scratches and cuts. It is also thought that tea tree is a powerful germicide or that the oil obtained from the tea leaves has the power to kill germs. The oil obtained from the leaves is also used to treat skin infections, ringworm, corns, and warts.
The garden variety thyme is grown and used to make a very soothing balm that is applied externally to skin to treat cuts, bruises, wounds. Some say that a specially prepared thyme balm will treat acne.
Turmeric is an herb that is part of the ginger family and grown in tropical climates. The bulb part of the plant is specially prepared to use in healing and cooking. Turmeric powder is used to treat various skin conditions, itching, eczema, and herpes.
