Diets Don't Work
Statistics indicate that approximately a third of American's are trying to lose weight or that they are worried about their weight at any given time during the year.
This is a frightening statistic, in several ways. They want to lose weight, but dieting seems a monumental task. Health experts report that obesity is a major problem in this country and should be addressed, because people are taking off the pounds the wrong way and for the wrong reasons.
Traditional Weight Loss Beliefs
Traditionally, health experts thought that it was a matter of taking in less calories and burning up more energy. Or in other words, eat less and move more. Actually, losing weight is a bit more complicated. Certainly, the human body is a complex creation. Gaining or losing weight does not simply involve a lack of will power. It involves complex issues like metabolism and the body's ability to burn up energy.
Diets Don't Work
Ultimately, diets donít work. We've all read about diets that suggest taking a magic pill, drinking a miracle juice, or consuming a weight loss powder results in genuine weight loss. People follow the new diet trend and lose weight. However, the weight lost returns along with a few extra pounds. The fact is that diets are a short term solution to a life-time problem. Obesity is an issue that cannot be solved with the latest diet fad. Instead, those dealing with extra weight should make lifestyle changes that are permanent. It is important to understand that weight management is a lifetime issue.
