Diets Don't Work
Statistics indicate that approximately a third of American's are trying to lose weight or that they are worried about their weight at any given time during the year. This is a frightening statistic, in several ways. They want to lose weight, but losing weight seems a monumental task. Health experts report that obesity is a major problem in this country and should be addressed, because people are losing weight the wrong way and for the wrong reasons.
Traditional Weight Loss Beliefs
Traditionally, health experts thought that it was a matter of taking in less calories and burning up more energy. Or in other words, eat less and move more. Actually, losing weight is a bit more complicated. The body is very complex. Gaining or losing weight does not simply involve a lack of will power. It revolves around complex issues like metabolism and the body's ability to burn up energy along with other elements.
Diets Don't Work
The fact is that ultimately, diets donít work. There are diets that suggest taking a magic pill, drinking a miracle juice, or consuming a weight loss powder will result in genuine weight loss. People follow the new hot diet and lose weight. Often, the weight lost returns along with a few extra pounds. The problem is that diets are a short term solution to a life-time problem. Obesity is a problem that cannot be solved with the latest diet trend. Instead, those suffering with a weight problem should make lifestyle changes that are permanent. The individual has to keep working at managing their weight through their life.
