Kid Friendly Slow Cooker Recipes

Guest Author - Brandii Lacey

Slow cooker recipes are often the best recipes for children of all ages to help prepare. Helping prep and layer ingredients can be a real confidence booster for younger kids. In addition, layering items in a slow cooker insert takes away any fears about young kids being near a hot stove or oven.

The crock pot also provides an excellent opportunity for older kids to create their own masterpieces, and again, without the worry of a hot oven or stove.

Here are a few of my favorite slow cooker recipes that I’ve prepared with cooks young and old!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Ham Recipe:

Ingredients:

• 2 packs of boneless, skinless chicken tenders

• 1 pack of fresh basil

• ½ cup of chicken broth

• ½ lb of sliced ham

• 1 package of shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese

Directions:

1. Spray slow cooker insert with non stick cooking spray (such as Pam).

2. Line up chicken tenders across large plate or cutting board.

3. Place one slice of ham on each tender.

4. Sprinkle shredded cheese on each piece of ham.

5. Roll each chicken tender up, until they can be placed in the slow cooker with the outer edge facing down.

6. Place one layer of chicken/ham/cheese tenders in the slow cooker, followed by a layer of basil.

7. Add one further layer of tenders, and top with one final layer of basil.

8. Pour the chicken broth over entire pot.

9. Cook for 7-10 hours on low, or until chicken is cooked through.

10. Serve over rice or pasta, along with a tossed salad.

Depending on your altitude and thickness of your chicken, cooking times will vary.

Slow Cooker Berry Topping Recipe

Ingredients:

• Vanilla ice cream

• 2 cups blackberries

• 1 cup raspberries

• 1 cup blueberries

• 4 Tablespoons of sugar

Directions:

1. Spray the inside of your crock pot with a non stick cooking spray
(such as Pam).

2. Add the blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries.

3. Sprinkle sugar over the fruit.

4. Cook on low of 1-3 hours, until heated throughout.

5. Serve over vanilla ice cream in bowls or cones.
