A pseudobulb is a reservoir for food and water in many orchids such as Cattleya and Oncidiums. It is the thickened stem which supports the leaves of the orchid. When the leaf falls off a pseudobulb, it is called a backbulb and will continue to provide nourishment to the plant until it turns brown and dies.
