These are the new laws that went into effect January 2006 in the State of California. It is imperative that residents be aware of these and to inform all family members of the changes.
Driving - Drivers between the ages of 16 and 18 who hold a provisional license cannot drive from the hours of 11 pm - 5 am for the first year of said license. AB356
Health Insurance - Each recipient of a denied health insurance application must receive a letter in writing on why they were denied an individual coverage, or why they were granted coverage at a higher premium than standard. AB356
Medical Records - Hospitals and clinics must make a note of the patient's primary spoken languages on medical records. AB800
Transgender people - Bans healthcare providers and insurers from denying coverage solely because a person has changed their gender. AB1586
Transplants - Prohibits health insurers from refusing to pay for tissue or organ transplant solely because the intended recipient is infected with HIV. AB 228
