There's Insurance for That?

Wedding Insurance

I had so many friends to get married in the year 2000. One friend in particular had one mishap after the other. The first seamstress, after committing to making the 8 bridesmaid dresses, decided she would much rather take a trip to Germany. While there was plenty of time for the second seamstress to make the dresses, time apparently got away as he was only able to finish 3 of the 8 dresses.

There is insurance to protect a couple’s investment from circumstances beyond their control and reimburse expenses incurred. Not sure if you would need this coverage? What if your reception space goes out of business a month before the wedding, you lose your deposit and you have to book another space. What if the limo driver doesn’t show up and you have to book another limo at three times the original amount.

The scenarios are endless from key family members unable to travel to wedding stuff (gowns, tuxedos, etc) catching on fire. Wedding insurance covers problems with the site, weather, vendors, key people in your wedding party, sickness or injury. It’s a good idea to first check with your vendors to see how well they’re covered. You would not want to pay for insurance protection if your signed contract already includes protection.

Specialty Insurance

It garnered a lot of attention when the story broke about J.Lo’s derrière. As it turns out the story was not true. Entertainment companies do insure the bodies of their celebrity cash makers.

Television networks and sports teams often supply their stars with hefty general disability insurance which will cover any injury that prevents the star from working. Of course disability insurance may be purchased from your local insurance agent. However, to get insurance for a particular body part, you’ll have to contact a surplus lines insurer. Surplus lines insurer cover all the risks that the regular companies don’t handle.

If you want a billion-dollar policies covering your legs like Mariah Carey you’ll have to contact Lloyds of London. You don’t have to be a celebrity to insure your body parts. As long as you are willing and able to pay the premiums you may insure any body part.

Other Insurance

While the thought of being kidnapped by aliens may not keep you awake at night, it does for enough people that at least one insurance company offers a policy that will protect I an alien takes you away. Just so you know Goodfellow Rebecca Ingrams Pearson (GRIP), the London insurance brokerage has actually paid an alien-abduction claim in the amount of $1 million sterling.

GRIP has sold the following types of policies:
-4,000 Immaculate Conception policies
-4,500 John Wayne Bobbitt policies
-Disability coverage for Stallions

Practically, any disaster you can possibly think of has an insurance policy to cover it. Some of the policies are weird or just offbeat. Some of these policies may be a good idea when you face risks a little bit out of the ordinary.
