Green Gifts for Homeschoolers

Green Gifts for Homeschoolers
Children today are accutely aware of the environment. Concerns of global warming, pollution and endangered animals are very important issues for many homeschoolers. My ten year old son is passionate about saving the wolf, and for his birthday he got an "adopted" wolf, as well as information and a wolf themed magazine. His prior interest in this strong creature only added to the excitement of a subsequent wolf lapbook and unit study. Many "green" gifts can be adapted into homeschooling units, studies and projects.

Animal lovers will be thrilled with gifts about our endangered species. For the youngest crew Scholastic has a "First Discoveries" book on Endangered Animals. Easy to read and informative, this book creates a sense of awareness without an alarmist tone. "The Atlas of Endangered Species" is a wonderful resource for all elementary and middle grade students. This is a book that can be used not only for enjoyment, but also for reports and research. High school students who are animal activists will love diving into the new book "Hope for Animals and Their World: How Endangered Species Are Being Rescued from the Brink" by Jane Goodall. The book is an uplifting story, written to encourage activism in a postive way. A fantastic Art themed green gift is the "Yasutomo Creative Origami Kit - Endangered Animals". The software titled "Animals: Amazing, Wild and Endangered Learning Power Pack" (Win/Mac) is an excellent source for all ages to play online and learn about life and care for our endangered species. For those visual learners, the dvd "Champions of the Wild: Endangered Animals From Around the World" is a fantastic and comprehensive set of three dvds. The entire family will learn alot from these informative films.
Finally, for those homeschoolers who cannot get enough "loveys", consider getting one of Wild Republic's stuffed creatures. The love and care for their new "pet" will incite an interest in learning about their creature. Plus, Wild Republic supports charities around the world to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
