These cookbooks are nicely done soft cover/spiral bound cookbooks in which you will find a healthy twist to many very good loved recipes that don't leave you hangin' when it comes to taste! This review is on two of their cookbooks the first is the Heart Smart® II Cookbook and the second is the Heart Smart® Kids Cookbook. These folks don't believe you have to skimp on taste to eat healthy!

Heart Smart® II Cookbook

This book starts out with meal planning and lists suggested menus for a week and for special meals (holidays, picnics and others). They include a "nutrition through the years" guide which provides helpful facts and suggestion for various stages of life. They also offer guides to Health and Fitness, Dining Out, Reading nutrition labels on food and Making Recipes Heart Smart®. They have recipes for everything you could want. Each recipe also has nutrition information and Diabetic exchange information included.

You'll find some taste bud delights in this one! Roasted Garlic & Almond Dip, Sour Cream Cranberry Coffee Cake, Corn Chowder, Garden Vegetable Pita, Sweet Bunny Salad and Herbed Flank Steak are a few of the delicious tempting dishes among the pages. Vegetarian? A wide selection of choices here too. Garden Vegetable Lasagna, Manicotti Florentine, Wild Mushroom Stroganoff and Stuffed Cabbage leaves are just a few of the vegetarian choices. They didn't neglect the sweet tooth either! From Bread Pudding with Lemon Raisin Sauce to Frozen Peach Yogurt Pie and Microwave Chocolate Pudding cake you won't be lacking for healthy desserts.

This cookbook has a wonderful selection of healthy recipes that are sure to become tasty favorites!


Heart Smart® Kids Cookbook

The Kids version of the Heart Smart® cookbooks is made to be easier for them to understand. It has a cooking term glossary and a handy "How-tos" glossary to guide them through preparing vegetables and apples. This book is sprinkled with safety and nutritional tips and also has a picture section showing the kids what the different "tools of the trade" are so they can easily locate what they need in the kitchen
.
Each recipe tells children exactly what tools/pans they will need, lists ingredients and provides step-by-step numbered instructions and also includes nutrient analysis per servings and food exchange information.

You'll find recipes such as Cupid's Crush Muffins, Quesadilla Appetizers, Brain-Boosting Salad and Strawberry Shortcake to name just a few of the delicious treats your child will be able to make following these easily understood recipes.

The pages have an interested cartoon Yak at the top and is peppered throughout with "Yak Facts" little tid-bits of nutritional information for the kids. There are drawn graphics all through the book for interest. The back has a wonderful section with educational and helpful pages easily followed by children. "Make a meal" menu ideas for special days, parties or any day using recipes from the book. There are tips for making meals special for them to get ideas for presentation, a food pyramid for children, fitness activity pyramid and much more!
