Crochet Footwear Fashion

Crochet Footwear Fashion
When fashion watching, the keen crocheter should cast a glance downwards and take a look at the feet. Crochet is continuing to feature in new shoe, sandal and even boot designs! A wide range of footwear is available which heavily feature crochet. Take a look here for some examples.

Crocheted sandals and shoes range in style from strappy summer wedges to flat ballet-style pumps. Crochet features as a decoration or as an integral part of the shoe manufacture.

Crocheted boots are made from crocheted uppers which are stitched to normal shoe or boot soles. They are of different lengths and some have a draw string around the top to hold the boot up - others are allowed to slouch. Celebrities have been seen wearing these crocheted boots, including Nicole Richie, teamed with short skirts or cut off jeans.

These boots would be easy for a crocheter to make themselves and many 'boot style' slippers could be adapted to make a great pair of boots. These would simply need to be stitched onto a proper shoe or boot sole to make them hard wearing and suitable for (dry!) outdoor wear.

Another idea for the crocheter looking to add a little something to their footwear is to decorate your own shop bought shoes and sandals with some crochet. Crocheted flowers or beads can be sewn to a pair of sandals to add your own unique style. An old pair of canvas boots could be given a new lease of life with some added crochet decoration, perhaps stitch a crocheted chain in swirls around the boot, or crochet some lace which can be stitched around the top of the boot.

An easy way to crochet for your feet is to make the bare foot sandals or beach thongs. These feet decorations are quick and easy to make using odds and ends of cotton or yarn, and if beads and other decorations are added some really unusual and unique items can be made. There are some patterns available at Crochet Pattern Central for footwear and these can be found here.

Crocheted slipper patterns would also adapt well to make summer footwear - experiment and have fun!
