Must Have DVDs – The Godfather DVD Collection

Guest Author - Tammy Cordani

“The Godfather” movies have long been a staple in cinema. The trilogy tells the story of the early days and later years of the Corleone family. The five disc DVD collection is a must have for fans of the series. What does the collection include?

Each movie is included in the set on individual discs. Disc one features 1972’s “The Godfather” which starred Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone, the head of the infamous mob family, and Al Pacino as his son Michael who is reluctant to become part of the family business. Brando is featured on the movie’s case and disc.

“The Godfather: Part II” (1974) is included with photos of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro on the movie’s case. The film is featured on discs two and three and tells the story of the younger life of Don Vito Corleone (De Niro) while living in Sicily and leads up to Michael Corleone’s (Pacino) expansion of the family’s holdings.

Al Pacino is also featured on the movie case and disc four for “The Godfather: Part III” (1990). The movie tells the story of Michael Corleone, who, now in his later years, decides to take the family business in a different direction.

Francis Ford Coppola, who directed each of the “Godfather” films, is shown on the DVD and the cover for disc five, the bonus materials section. Besides photo galleries and theatrical trailers for the movies, there are a number of features including a “Behind the Scenes” look at the films. This bonus section includes a behind the scenes look at the original “Godfather” film as well as storyboards from “The Godfather: Part II and Part III”. “Godfather” fans also get to look inside Francis Ford Coppola’s movie notebook and hear his views (along with Mario Puzo, who wrote the novels on which the movies are based) on screenwriting. We also get a chance to “look inside” the “Godfather Family”, location shooting and hear about the music from the movies.

An “Additional Scenes/Chronology” section is included along with a look at biographies of the movies’ cast, characters and filmmakers. “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II” were best picture Oscar winners. In the “Acclaim and Response” section of the DVD, fans can see/hear acceptance speeches from the Academy Awards and view the long list of nominations and awards that were bestowed upon each of the films. This also includes the TV introduction of “The Godfather: Part II” and DVD credits.

Fans of the “Godfather” trilogy will not be disappointed with this five disc DVD collection. With these three infamous movies in one set along with a special DVD filled with bonus materials, “The Godfather DVD Collection” is a must have for all movie fans.
