How do you judge beauty? Executive Producers Ashton Kutcher and Tyra Banks are asking that very question with the new reality based beauty pageant True Beauty. The contestants chosen are beyond beautiful on the outside but the ultimate winner is judged by what's on the inside.
What makes this show intriguing and worth watching? Perhaps it is the fact that the contestants do not realize they are being judged for their inner beauty and believe that it is their beautiful face and hot body that wins the prize. The winner will be featured in People Magazine as one of People's 100 Most Beautiful People and win $100,000 for more than just their physical appearance.
Vanessa Manillo hosts this twist on a beauty pageant as well as judges contestants along side former Model Cheryl Tiegs and Nole Marin formerly of America's Next Top Model. The ten beauties, six women and four men, live together in a fabulous mansion in Los Angeles while participating in competitions that judge their physical beauty. What they don't know is that there are tests of their inner gorgeousness being thrown at them as well.
Let me briefly introduce the contestants for you. Ashley is a blond designer's assistant from New York who brought $30,000 in designer clothes. Joel is from Florida and his main goal while working out is so that he can "look good naked". Monique recently graduated college with a degree in biology and is currently working as a club dancer. Bill owns his own vitamin store and works as a Chippendale's Dancer on the side. Julia is a former pageant winner from Texas who has eyelash extensions that amazingly stay on even after swimming.
Chelsea is a model/country singer living in Nashville who wears an intense amount of eye liner. CJ is a barista who has a sensitive side with his beautiful poetry that made Chelsea cry. Hadiyyah-lah is a very confident girl who on a scale of 10, rates herself a 20. Then there is Laura who washed dishes for the very first time on the show and Ray the artist.
The contestants' first task is to have their beauty evaluated by a doctor and given a "beauty number". They each get measured and those measurements are entered into an equation. The real test is that all of the contestants' medical files are strategically placed next to a chair that each of them will sit in while being measured. The judges watch them to see who peaks and who resists the temptation to scope out the competition.
Two contestants are chosen out of the ten to go in front of the judges panel who will choose which one leaves the show. On the first episode, this was Chelsea and Hadiyyah-lah. They are given one final test to see who will make the cut. The one who doesn't open the door for a guy holding about 8 cups of coffee went home. The second contestant voted out was Ashley for failing to help a man who took quite a tumble off of his bike.
There is no doubt that the contestants are gorgeous. In fact, they all share the outstanding accomplishment of being voted "best looking" in high school. Each contestant exudes the utmost confidence in their physical attractiveness, some with a ton more attitude than others. It will be interesting to see what challenges are in store for the contestants and what drama shall ensue.
