Scenting Your Room

Scenting Your Room
With all the products out there these days, it is hard to know what to use to make a room smell good. As someone who loves scents, I've tried many things and here are my favorites:

Glade Scented Oil Candles
You have to buy the starter kit with the little glass holder which you can usually find in any department store. This costs $6-10 but usually comes with two or three candles. The refill candles themselves come in packages of three and run between $2 and $3. The best scents are Apple Cinnamon, Orchid Oasis, French Vanilla, and Spiced Rose and Vanilla. They also usually have special holiday scents. The candles, once lit, melt into a little puddle of scented goodness in the glass holder and easily scent a bedroom for a few hours. Like all candles, though, never leave one burning by itself for safety’s sake.

Febreeze Fabric Spray
While Febreeze now makes air spray and a variety of other products, I still like the original fabric spray. It is one of the only products you can put directly onto fabric without worrying about staining and it also smells really good. I like the original scent, but it also comes in a variety of others like citrus, lavender, and linen. It is great to use on carpets, bedspreads, curtains, and plush furniture. You can buy this in most department stores in the air spray or laundry section.

Mia Bella Candles
This soy candles have terrific scents – rose and cinnamon bun are my favorite and come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. They also have the added benefit of being smokeless which means that the wick itself, when burned, won’t leave weird residue in your room. And if you really enjoy the candles, you can also sign up to sell them and make a little extra money because Mia Bella is sold entirely though individual distributors and online. Again, like any candle, never leave one burning unattended for safety’s sake.

Essential Oils
Essential oils are the real deal- they aren’t made with chemicals synthesized to smell nice like most of the products above (except for a few scents made by Mia Bella). You can usually find them in a natural foods or health food store or sometimes in the pharmacy section. They come in tiny glass bottles and you only really need to use a drop or two for a big scent. You can distill them in oil or water and spray them, or dribble them lightly where you want the scent like on a pillow. They also have better aromatherapy possibilities – lavender to soothe, citrus to refresh etc.

Citrus Magic
This product is made from essential citrus oils and is already packaged to be sprayed in the air. A lot goes a long way for this air spray so don’t overuse it. But, when used sparingly, it has an awesome orange scent. You can usually find this in the air spray section of any department store.

The good ol’ air
Sometimes the best way to make your room smell good is to open a window. Put a fan in it if there isn’t a breeze and let the fresh air in. You can also hang your sheets and pillowcases on a clothesline for a nice fresh scent.
