Finishing the Holiday Animation in Motion

Finishing the Holiday Animation in Motion
Now we will work on the shadow text in our MotionR project. We want to use the Distort tool to adjust the height of the shadow text to reflect the movement of the holiday message text. We will also add a fade in transition to the shadow text over the first 10 frames.

  1. Lock the Indent layer and unlock and select the Shadow layer.

Notice that the HUD shows the Opacity of this layer is set to 32%, which is the value that we set for that layer in PhotoshopR. The Opacity setting was imported correctly.

At this point, the shadow text is at a height to match the holiday text when in an upright position. This is how we drew it in Photoshop. But this shadow text will change in shape and opacity as the holiday text moves over the Canvas. Let's set the keyframes for this part of the animation.

First we will use the Distort tool to shorten the height of the shadow text to reflect the start of the holiday text rising from the snow. As the holiday text moves to an upright position, the shadow will grow back to its original height (2 seconds). As the holiday text moves backward and closer to the snow, the shadow will get darker (3 seconds) and as it rises to the final upright position the shadow will be back to its original opacity of 32% (4 seconds).

  2. Click on the Record button.

  3. Move the Playhead back to the start of the Timeline. With the Distort tool, drag the top center handle straight downward toward the bottom of the holiday text until the shadow is a thin line at the foot of the holiday text. In the HUD, set the Opacity to 0%.

  4. Move the Playhead to the 2 seconds position on the Timeline, where the holiday text is vertical. Go back to the Distort tool and drag upward until the shadow text is back to its full position. Set the Opacity back to 32%.

  5. Move the Playhead to the 3 seconds position, where the text is laying backwards on the snow. Set the Opacity of the layer to 50% in the HUD.

  6. Move the Playhead to the 4 seconds position, where the text is at the final vertical position. Set the Opacity back to 32%.

  7. Click on the Record button to stop recording. The Shadow layer should have four keyframes.

To finish the holiday text animation, our last step is to add a fade in transition to the holiday text layer. But this time, we will have the text fade in over only 3 frames, so that it appears on the screen before the other layers.

  8. Lock the Shadow layer and unlock the Text layer.

  9. With the Playhead at the start of the Timeline, click the Record button. In the HUD, set the Opacity to 0%.

  10. Move the Playhead to the 3rd frame and set the Opacity to 100%. Stop recording.

Finally we need to add a fade in transition for the company name. Beginning with the Opacity set to 0% at the start of the Timeline, we will begin the fade in transition at 6 seconds on the Timeline (Opacity 0%) and end at 8 seconds on the Timeline (Opacity 100%).
