Heart Disease and the Diabetic

Heart Disease? Me? Yes, being a diabetic requires constant monitoring of all your body functions. Unfortunately, Heart Disease and Diabetes are linked and must be controlled.
How? Your doctor may all ready have you on some cholesterol drugs such as Lipotor or other medications.

Since Diabetes is a disease of the pancreas and affects your blood circulation, heart and other major organs, you should be fully aware of all your test results. Your physician should periodically check your cholesterol and kidney enzymes. If you’re not sure check with your doctor and ask for your results. In this case ignorance is not bliss.

There are major steps you can do to prevent heart disease.

1. Exercise- Any and all movement is good for the heart and your diabetes. Start slowly and get your doctors approval when beginning an exercise regimen.

2. Limit fat intake- By limiting your intake of saturated fats you prevents your body forming plague on your arteries.

3. Aspirin- Taken once a day helps to keep your blood thinned and moving. Again, check with your doctor before any medications.

Remember to become an active patient with your diabetes. Ask questions, read articles and become an informed and active participant in your therapy.
