Two Great Reasons to Enjoy June

Two Great Reasons to Enjoy June
Ahhh, welcome to the month of June. The next 30 days brings for many of us graduations, celebrating dads, weddings, the close of the school year and long-awaited vacations. Hopefully everyone will now have the opportunity to experience the great outdoors. June is also a month where we tend to turn our focus toward living a healthier life, doing things like moving our bodies more and making smarter choices about our food. Gardens are beginning to sprout. Farmer's Markets and roadside stands crop up with seasonal bounty to savor and enjoy. The sun is finally smiling on us and we want to have the energy to be more active and enjoy life--and even look good while doing it!

In our not so sunny Seattle, we are covered in gray clouds and rain for around nine months of the year. When May and June come along, however, our days get longer - super long. That golden orb in the sky breaks through and we suddenly experience the bluest skies you have ever seen.

People living in our lovely green Pacific Northwest suddenly break out of the confines of their homes, peeking out and looking for ways to enjoy this glorious change in our weather. There is also a tendency to pursue a healthy lifestyle. Yippee!!! Bring on Summer.

Our bodies are meant to be active, and the return of longer days gives us the opportunity to spend more time taking part in activities we love. I hope you will get out of your office during the day and take a walk. Check out the bike trails in your area. Where ever you have chosen to live, it's up to you to discover the many treasures and adventures your home area provides. Find new paths. Pursue activities you've never tried. Have some fun. This is the time of year when the outdoor pursuit of possibilities are endless.

Eating is another area where the bounty of the season should be your opportunity to enjoy the season. Now is not the time to indulge in a baked potato. Find some fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. Basil plants are everywhere and a Caprese Salad is waiting to be created and savored. Fresh strawberries and cream, blueberries and peaches can be picked and indulged in. No need for ice cream with chocolate fudge - you can do that in January.

I hope you can find ways to increase movement in your life. Likewise, look for the joy in discovering the fresh and lively treats your taste buds are craving. Wishing you a fun and relaxing summer season.
