Director Oliver Stone Spends Night In Jail
Controversial Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone spent Friday night in the Beverly Hills jail after being arrested on alcohol and drug charges.

Director Oliver Stone arrested on alcohol and drug charges.Stone, 58, was picked up near midnight at a holiday weekend police checkpoint after officers noticed the director appeared to be driving intoxicated.

A further search of his Mercedes turned up an illegal drug, which the Beverly Hills police department has declined to identify. They also will not release details of his blood alcohol level.

After posting a $15,000 bond, Stone was released around 6:30am on Saturday. Neither Stone nor his representatives have commented on the charges yet.

This isn't the first time the filmmaker has been arrested. In 1999, he was also arrested on similar DUI and drug charges. After plea barganing, he was court-ordered to enter a rehabilitation program.

Stone received Best Directing Oscars for Platoon (which also won for Best Picture) and Born on the Fourth of July, as well as for his screenplay adaptation of Midnight Express.

His recent film, Alexander hasn't faired so well, being widely panned upon its release last November.
