Michael Jackson Verdict In: Not Guilty On All Counts

The intro graphic on Michael Jackson's trial website says it all...a silhouette of his dancing feet with the word "innocent" emblazoned below.

After being sequestered for 28 hours (nights and weekends off), the jury returned verdicts of "not guilty" on all ten major and four minor counts that had been brought against the popstar, ranging from the molestation charges to giving alcohol to a minor.

Around noon, pacific time, on Monday, Jackson and his lawyers received notice to return to court as the jurors had reached a unanimous decision. At 1:30, Judge Rodney Melville opened the jury envelopes and silently read the verdict forms before handing them to the clerk of courts to read outloud. Jackson reportedly sat very still, showing little emotion. His mother began tearing up around the second "not guilty" verdict, but the court remained silent until after the last verdict had been read. Jackson then stood up, briefly hugged his lawyer, and left the courtroom for his SUV.

He blew a few brief kisses at his fans, who celebrated by singing, dancing, cheering and letting doves fly. Jackson's SUV convoy headed for Neverland Ranch, where he was soon joined by his siblings, including Janet and Randy.

Many feel that if there is one shining star in the Jackson camp, it is his attorney Thomas Mesereau Jr. The lawyer, who also got actor Robert Blake acquitted of murder charges earlier this year, continuously poked holes in the prosecution's offense. From finding evidence that shed doubt to getting the accuser to contradict himself on the stand, Mesereau put the idea of reasonable doubt in the juror's minds.

"Justice is done. The man's innocent. He always was," Mesereau stated.

If Jackson had been found guilty, he could have been sentenced up to 20 years in prison -- a real maximum security one, not "Camp Cupcake" like Martha Stewart. Instead, Jackson spent the evening as a free man with friends and family.

Jackson posts a victory message on his websiteWhile it is possible that the family that brought this case to court may try a civil suit against Jackson, many believe it would be futile due to the mother's behaviour during her time on the stand for this trial. Offering testimony that was always dramatic, sometimes bizarre and occasionally incoherent, including snapping her fingers at jurors, she described her last stay at Neverland as tense and scary and that she felt like she and her son were being held prisoner. However on cross-examination, she never fully explained why she never contacted the police immediately, especially when she left often to go shopping. The family's suit was also hurt by testimony from others ranging from Jay Leno, who felt the family had constantly propositioned him for financial donations, to a welfare worker who accused the family of fraud.

Now that the jury is free of court obligations, it's expected to be only a matter of time before the book deals start flying.

Jackson, himself, had no public comment, but let his website do the talking. As regal, triumphant music segues into Jackson's music, images and dates ranging from the fall of the Berlin Wall to Nelson Mandela's release from prison flash onto the screen.

"Remember this date, for it is a part of HIStory," says the site, before it fades to black.
