Yes, this is the plot for many other sci fi books and movies, but Halo does an excellent job of making this storyline gripping. The game play is amazing, the AI for the troops on your side and the two different enemies you fight is great. In some scenes you can just sit back and watch the two enemy factions fighting and see how the different units take advantage of their own strengths.

Once the game caught on so well, the book followed quickly. You might worry that the book was just a marketing gimmick - but they chose their author well. Eric Nylund has done a great job of expanding the story so that it's engaging and fun to read.
