Crochet Earrings

Crochet Flower Earring
Little flowers and motifs when worked with a fine yarn and hook can make lovely items of jewelry. The intricate lacy look of the finished items belies how easy they are to make. Different looks and effects can be achieved by using different yarns.

The earrings shown were made using hand dyed silk, however crochet cotton, other fine yarns or even wire would work really well. Beads can be attached to give some added texture and glitter to the finished earrings, these can either be crocheted in or sewn into place afterwards. Any motif will work well, or try an Irish Crochet pattern. The pattern below is a simple pattern for a flower design and is very straightforward to make.

The earrings need to be fixed onto ear wires, and this is simple to achieve. Earring findings are readily available both from local craft stores and on the internet.

Using the instructions below and thicker yarn, bigger flowers can be made which can be used to adorn other accessories for instance bags, scarves etc.

This is an idea project for a beginner and a good way to practice making flowers.

Materials required
Small amount of thin crochet cotton (size 10) or other yarn
1mm (US size 12) Crochet Hook

These flowers are made by crocheting around the centre ring of chain stitches. There are two rows of 'petals' the top row is crocheted first.

1/ Make 3 Chain Stitch and join to form a ring.

2/ Make 2 Chain Stitch and Single Crochet into the loop, repeat 4 times giving 5 loops in total.

3/ Into each loop make 1 Single Crochet, followed by 3 Double Crochet and ending with 1 Single Crochet. Repeat 4 times giving 5 small petals. Make slip stitch to fasten last petal into place.

4/ To make the second row of petals make Chain 3 and making sure this falls behind the front petal Single Crochet to fix the chain in between the two petals in the front row. Repeat 4 times. (You will have a chain of 3 stitches behind each petal on the front row).

5/ Into the chain stitches made; 1 Single Crochet, 5 Double Crochet and 1 Single Crochet. Repeat into each of the remaining petals.

To finish stitch the beads into the center of the flower and stitch onto an earring wire. Repeat the instructions for form the second earring.

A matching necklace or choker could be made by stitching a few of the flowers onto a piece of ribbon or perhaps a piece of crochet.
