Samhain (Halloween) is pagan holiday that is celebrated on October thirty-first. This holiday marks the end of harvest season and the beginning of the more relaxed winter months. In older times this meant that the work of the planting and harvesting was done.
The veil between the land of the living and the land of the dead is believed to be at the thinnest on this day. It is a time to remember and honor your ancestors. It is also a time to remember loved ones, friends and pets that are no longer among the living.
Even though this is a sacred holiday, you can have some fun with it. The weeks leading up to Samhain provide many entertaining activities. There are many fall festivals, pumpkin patches and apple orchards to visit. There are also haunted houses, hay rides, and corn mazes. Many of these activities are child and family friendly. Enjoying all of the fall activities is a great way to honor the season and prepare for Samhain.
There are many ways to have an entertaining Samhain celebration. A costume party is a great idea. People like to dress up and it gives the adults a chance to fell like a child again. It is also something that parents can do with their children. They can pick out costumes or make costumes together.
Samhain is the day when the veil between worlds is the thinnest. This makes a great time for a séance. That is if you have an experienced psychic medium to perform the séance. This is the time to communicate with you ancestors.
It is also a good time for divination. You could have a fortune teller for your Samhain celebration. The divination could be performed with tarot cards, rune stones, a crystal ball or any divination technique that is preferred. Guest at your celebration could have their fortune foretold. It could be a fulfilling experience for you and your guests.
If you are having dinner, you could have a potluck. You could provide soup and/or chili and your guests could bring desserts, sides, or appetizers. Pumpkin soup or pumpkin pie would be good for the celebration. You can also get creative with the food. Use your imagination and see what you can find.
A Samhain ritual can be to honor your ancestors. Another common practice is to reflect on the last year and be hopeful about the year ahead. Decide what you want to accomplish in the year ahead and how you can make it happen.
