Types of Candles

Container Candle

A candle that is poured into a heat resistant container like glass or tins and is burned in the container for use.

Gel Candle

Gel candles are relatively new but consist of gelled mineral oils. It is soft and transparent, somewhat consistent with Jello. These are placed within a container.

Pillar Candle

These are candles which have been poured into a mold and extracted, usually having a diameter of 2-3 inches. They are free standing with one or more wicks.

Taper Candle

A taper candle is one of the more familiar candles, they are thin with a length of 6-18 inches. Usually wider at the base and narrowing toward the top and seated in a candle holder. Some will call them dinner candles.

Votive Candle

These are small cylindrical candles typically no taller than 2 ½ inches and 1-2 inches in diameter. They are seated in a votive candle holder to retain the wax since they will usually liquefy when lit.

Tealight Candle

Is a small cylinder candle usually filled within a metal or plastic cup, 1-2 inches in diameter and 1-1 1/2 inches high.

Floating Candles

These candles are poured into molds of various shapes and used in a bowl filled with water. Since wax is buoyant they will float and add a special touch when lit.

Wickless Candles

A wickless candle is poured into a heat resistant container and just as the title states, it has no wick. These are meant to be heated over a warmer to release the scent without use of a flame.
