Legal Troubles Abound For Two Lost Stars

Last month, on December 1, new "Lost" castmembers Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros were arrested separately of each other, but only 15 minutes apart, on DUI charges in Hawaii.

Unfortunately, things may be getting worse for Rodriguez.

She was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in November 2003 and in June 2004, Rodriguez, 27, was sentenced to 36 months of probation for this, driving on a suspended license and another charge of hit-and-run that occurred in July 2003.

Thursday (Dec. 29), as the two stars were being initially arraigned in Honolulu on the DUI charges, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office announced that they were considering the new arrest as an official probation violation for Rodriguez and will issue formal charges against the actress on January 24.

"We believe Ms. Rodriguez violated the terms of her probation," said office spokesman Frank Mateljan in a press statement. "She now potentially faces up to 18 months in county jail."

The actual hearing for the probation violation will be scheduled after Rodriguez appears in court on March 30 for her latest DUI charge. Her lawyer is expected to enter a not guilty plea.

Since relocating to Hawaii after being cast as ex-cop Ana-Lucia Cortez on the show, the actress has also racked up several hefty speeding violations, including one where she was caught doing 90 mph in a 35 mph speed zone. She reportedly has paid all fines related to these offenses, but they could be used against her in court, as well.

Watros, 37, on the other hand, via her attorney, had the official arraignment on charges pushed back to January 12, where it is expected she will plead guilty. Her attorney, Lanson Kupau, said in a press statement that "She made a mistake. She's very remorseful and she wants to take responsibility for her actions." Watros is currently cast as psychiatrist Libby.

Spokepeople for "Lost" and ABC have yet to comment on the arrests or the new charges against Rodriguez.

The show is currently in repeats, but is expected to return to the airwaves with a new episode on January 11, 2006.

Rodriguez will also be appearing in the upcoming film, BloodRayne, based on the popular video game, which hits theaters on January 6, 2006. For those keeping score, this is her second appearance in a film based on a game, as she appeared in the original Resident Evil movie.
