Korn Announces 2006 Spring Tour

Last year was a year of big upheavals for hard rock band Korn.

Korn hits the road [Photo: Virgin Records]First, co-founder and guitarist Brian "Head" Welch left the band and became a born-again christian. Considering the band often sings of debauchery and sin, this hit fans and the band out of left field.

Then, Korn split with Sony Records, which had been the band's home since their self-titled debut album was released in 1994.

Now, in 2006, Korn have a new album, See You on the Other Side, which was produced and financed by the band in between labels. They also finally have a new label home, at Virgin Records. And they have a new deal with the label that is rather unique -- rather than the label funding everything and then paying the band after all costs have been recouped, the label gets a 30% share of the touring revenue (traditionally the label got little to nothing), while the band gets 70% of the album sales.

According to lead singer/co-founder Jonathan Davis, this could be very lucrative for both parties. ""If they do their job, and they promote us right and we're doing great touring-wise, they're going to make money like they've never seen it before, and we're going to make money that we've never seen before."

So what's a band to do with a new album and a new label? Tour, of course.

Korn will hit the road for 27 dates starting February 24 in the band's hometown of Bakersfield, CA, and wrapping up April 4th in Toronto, Ontario. The band will be bringing along Mudvayne and 10 Years as support acts on the tour.

The band has also decided not to replace Welch. Instead, the band will have a guitarist offstage playing parts where an additional guitar is needed.
