Birth Name: John Frankenheimer

Born: February 19, 1930 in Malba, New York. Raised in Queens.

Died: July 6, 2002 at age 72 of a massive stroke as a result of complications after spinal surgery. He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles, California.

Although he studied studied theater at Williams College, John Frankenheimer began his filmmaking career in the Air Force. He made documentary shorts in the 1950s. He is best known for Seven Days in May (1964), about political intrigue with Burt Lancaster, The Manchurian Candidate (1962), a conspiracy thriller staring Frank Sinatra, and Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), a social drama staring Burt Lancaster. He enjoyed making movies using controversial and unconventional themes. Frankenheimer was scheduled to be inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in the fall of 2002.
