The Presidential election on NBC's "The West Wing" has yet to be decided, but it'll be a short term for the winner as the show will end after the current season.
The series has won many accolades during its run, including multiple Emmys and Golden Globes, but during the current seventh season, the show's ratings have dropped to its lowest ever. Many blame the network's decision to move the show to Sundays this season, but the show's ratings were starting to slide even before the schedule change.
"From the venerable, moving performances by the first-rate cast to the sterling creative team behind the camera, this series has left an indelible imprint on the landscape of television drama," said Kevin Reilly, President of NBC Entertainment in a press release. "But it's no secret that the ratings have been tough for the past couple of seasons, and you get to the point where you want to send off the show with some dignity and semblance of success."
The network plans to end the show on May 14 with a two-hour block of programming. An hour-long retrospective of the show will air at 7pm EST, followed by a special series finale episode, which will not only wrap up the current election story arc, but the show itself.
NBC's sister network Bravo will continue to air the entire series in repeats.
