You can bowl better than you are bowling now, believe it or not. I sometimes think a great number of average league bowlers feel they cannot bowl better than they do now because they are as good as they are going to get. And one of the reasons I think that is because there are bowlers out there who have let others dictate how that bowler will bowl.
You attend a league session and you have a real good night. Your average is 150 and you bowl games of 160, 165 and 163. Wow! A real good night. You are so excited that you tell some friends how well you bowled. One of them shrugs it off, muttering okay or something. Another tells you it was a lucky break and will probably not happen that often. And so it goes! Not a one of them congratulates you or encourages you so that you carry that inspiration into other league sessions, or you work at making your game better.
They are not doing that deliberately. They are simply acting like a lot of other people who simply do not pay that much attention or do not think of trying to improve their own bowling. Those who do this, will probably end up with the same average FOREVER! They don’t care and they are not that interested, so what’s the big deal?
You had a brief moment where you actually felt you could improve with time, practice, etc. You were puffed up and excited and you felt things could get better. But your friends, without meaning to, dashed your hopes into little bits of disappointment. It happens, it has happened and it will happen again. We simply do not have enough people who are really that excited about becoming better bowlers. The majority, in my opinion, seem to have settled in an area where they simply stay put and do not want to go in any other direction. They bowl their leagues, they acquire their scores, and that is the way it is.
I have pointed out what I feel is one of the major problems today and the fact that many bowlers are simply not that interested in improving. And they seem to have accepted the fact that it is that way and always will be. But, NO SO my friend! You can change that and should change that. And the reason you should change that is because if you start bowling better and start working at becoming a better bowler, bowling will become more fun.
How much fun is it to bowl on a regular league night when things are mundane and the way they always are? How much fun is it to either just bowl your average or under your average? How much more fun is it when you are getting some strikes and your score is better than normal and even going higher? Isn’t it fun when things are going well? And doesn’t it, deep down within your own self, it make you feel like maybe it would be even more fun if you were a better bowler. Think of it! More strikes and higher scores more often! Wow! That does sound great.
YOU can improve your own bowling but YOU have to be the one that takes that first step. And YOU must realize that if you do take that step and you do become a better bowler, YOU will have more fun.
So, you know what, if you want to have more fun at bowling and you want to understand why better bowlers like to bowl more, set a goal to improve your own bowling and you will find out why!
Believe in yourself and your bowling!
