Singer Martina McBride and Newscaster Nancy O'Dell Receive State Honors
Country singer Martina McBride and entertainment newscaster Nancy O'Dell don't seem to have much in common besides both working in the business. But they also now share another achievement -- both ladies are being honored by their respective home states for their long incredible careers.
McBride, who has sold more than 15 million copies of her albums over her career, and scored numerous hit singles and music awards, was honored last Friday as "Kansan of the Year" by the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas.
McBride was born and raised in Medicine Lodge, Kansas, living on a dairy farm with her family. In accepting the award, McBride said in a statement that growing up in Kansas "shaped the person I am today."
The singer is currently recovering from a bout with laryngitis, and is on tour for her most recently released album, Timeless.

On the east coast, the state of South Carolina has decided to honor entertainment newscaster Nancy O'Dell by proclaiming February 1st to be "Nancy O'Dell Day" statewide.
A native of Myrtle Beach, O'Dell will receive the honor in a special ceremony hosted by Governor Mark Sanford. She will also receive a resolution from both the state House of Representatives and Senate honoring her for her many accomplishments and for being a good will ambassador for the state.
An award-winning journalist, O'Dell currently serves as co-host for the daily entertainment newsmagazine "Access Hollywood," contributes to NBC's "Dateline" and "The Today Show," and she also covers the red carpet for the majority of the industry's award shows.
