The Village People Receive Walk of Fame Star

The Village People Receive Walk of Fame Star
Young man, the Village People have finally gotten some of the recognition they so deserve. On September 12, the Village People assembled at the Hollywood Walk of Fame to receive their own star. The Village People have a star in between equally flamboyant musician Liberace and iconic actress Betty Grable.

The Village People have never wavered in their popularity. Even today they maintain a busy touring schedule, complete with the costumes that made them famous. Back in their early days, a young Madonna was once the opening act for the group.

YMCA was perhaps their best-known hit and made the group a household name in 1978. Macho Man was released the same year and became a huge hit in the disco world. Disco may have faded away since that time, but the Village People are still going strong.

The sailor, Indian and construction worker are all original members of the group. The policeman has been a Village person since 1979, and the current cowboy has been a part of the group since 1980. While the biker, Glenn Hughes, died in 2001 from cancer, he has been replaced with a new man in leather.

Currently scheduled concert dates:

10/05/08 - Niagara Falls, NY, The Seneca Niagara Events Center at Seneca Niagara Casino
12/05/08 - Las Vegas, NV, Whiskey Pete's
12/06/08 - Las Vegas, NV, Whiskey Pete's

The Best of the Village People is a fun look back at the group's biggest hits.
