Musician Scott Stapp Has Wild Cross-Country Weekend

Scott Stapp, former lead singer of Creed, certainly had a memorable time, this past weekend.

The two met a year ago at a fundraising gala for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in New York and were engaged late last year. The wedding took place at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Miami, FL, with Stapp's 7-year old son, Jagger, from his first marriage, serving as best man.

One day later, Stapp was arrested at the Los Angeles airport for public intoxication. He was there, attempting to board a flight for Hawaii -- probably for his honeymoon -- when airline personnel reportedly refused to let him board because they felt he was drunk and might be a safety risk in the air. According to a spokesperson for LAX, the airport police arrived on the scene, after receiving a disturbance call, to find Stapp "behaving in a beligerent manner." The officers then took the singer into custody and booked him at the Van Nuys LAPD station, under a charge of public intoxication of drugs or alcohol. At the time of his arrest, his blood alcohol limit was reported to be almost twice the legal limit.

Stapp is currently free on bond, but has to return to Los Angeles for an arraignment hearing on March 8.

This isn't the first time he has had problems with alcohol and the law. In July 2002, Stapp was arrested in Central Florida for reckless driving when his SUV was seen swerving wildly before running off the road. In late 2003, fans filed suit after Creed's Chicago concert, claiming the singer was "intoxicated and /or medicated" and in no condition to perform a concert for which they paid money. And in November of last year, Stapp allegedly started a brawl in a Baltimore bar with members of the band 311. A reportedly intoxicated Stapp insulted a wife of one of the band members, who tried to reason with the singer -- until he supposedly threw the first punch. Stapp claims his punch was in self-defense, as it was 311 who started the incident. Police were called and escorted Stapp to his room, but no charges were ever filed.

Stapp is scheduled to start a tour for his recently released album, The Great Divide, on February 23 in Orlando, FL.
