American Girl Rebecca Study

Guest Author - Alissa Moy

American Girl Rebecca Rubin is a gregarious and outgoing young lady. With a family background full of Russian heritage, Rebecca is raised in a home of the Jewish faith, and she is keen on pursuing her dreams, wherever they may take her. She adapts to new ideas and adventures well, which suits her in the world of theater. Here are unit study ideas to make your study of the American Girl Rebecca both fascinating and cross curricular:

1. Reading the American Girl books about Rebecca is the best place to begin your study. Many parents enjoy reading these books aloud, even if their child is an independent reader, as the stories really do appeal to everyone! Meet Rebecca (American Girls Collection) by Jacqueline Dembar Greene is a great book to start with. There is also a Rebecca boxed set available at Amazon with a game, too. The books about Rebecca individually are Candlelight for Rebecca (American Girls Collection) by Jacqueline Dembar Greene, A Bundle of Trouble: A Rebecca Mystery (American Girl Mysteries) by Kathryn Reiss, Rebecca and the Movies (American Girl) by Jacqueline Dembar Greene, Changes for Rebecca (American Girls Collection) by Jacqueline Dembar Greene and Rebecca to the Rescue (American Girls Collection) by Jacqueline Dembar Greene. There is also a Rebecca Just for Fun: The Make-It, Play-It, Solve-It Book of Fun! (American Girl) by Jennifer Hirsch which is entertaining and fun for girls of all ages.

2. Play online! The website, American girl.com, offers a variety of educational and enjoyable games for fans of Rebecca, and all of the other dolls. The activities for Rebecca's area online include games like "The Russian Doll Mix Up", which encourages matching skills, and a word search with vocabulary from all of the Rebecca books. These would be great to find and discuss. Other online activities include Rebecca themed E Cards and an online family tree.

3. Craft and create with some of the Rebecca kits, like paper dolls. Or, create your own paper dolls of Rebecca and her family.

4. Act it out-Rebecca dreams of becoming an actress, even though her parents feel she would be a good teacher. Create a skit that Rebecca might act in and perform it. This might be a super activity to involve fellow homeschoolers in also.

5. Visit Enchanted Learning to glean crafts, lessons and ideas for teaching your child about Hanukkah. These are free to all, and not member restricted.
