Stylish Inexpensive Shopping
Guest Author - Shanita Alexander

It's hard today being a teenager, trying to fit in and staying abreast with the latest fashions. Unfortunately our economy is not in a good state right now and just about everything has gone up. Especially clothing. Whether your parents take you shopping, you have a part time job or receive an allowance, clothes can be quite expensive. Here are a few tips for teens shopping for stylish but inexpensive clothing.

When you shop at thrift stores you always have the potential of finding something unique. You may find clothes or shoes currently in style or fades from different or older seasons. This is especially fun if you don't like wearing what everyone else is wearing or if you're just looking for something unusual. You may find many thrift stores organize their clothes by color which can be kind of cool. Not only are the prices much lower than retail stores, but the proceeds go to a good cause. Many thrift stores have dressing rooms so you can try clothes on prior to purchasing them.

Outlet stores have name brand or popular designer clothing and accessories for reasonable prices. Nowadays, most high end retail stores have outlets. Unfortunately sometimes outlet stores are not local, so therefore you may find many of them grouped together in one or two strip malls. The drive can be fun and it's exciting to go shopping for top name brands and get great deals.

At consignment shops you find great bargains. Consignment shops are well known for their quality. Even though some retail items are used, many are new and still have the original store tags on them. In addition to clothes, they have jewelry and other accessories. You can also sell clothing you no longer wear or want. Check with your local consignment shops for profit amounts.

Yard sales are wonderful. I know lots of teens that go yard sale hopping together. That's going from one yard sale to another. You're hanging out with friends and finding good deals. You can usually find nice clothes with very inexpensive prices. Not only are the clothes inexpensive but most of the time prices are negotiable. The only down side is you may not be able to try the clothes on.

Get creative! Ironing on patches or adding buttons to clothing may give clothes a little zeal. Sewing pieces of fabric together, or onto other clothing can help you to create your own style. Scarves and handkerchiefs are just some of the neat things lying around the house you could use to accessorize your outfit. Also borrow or trade clothing with friends or family. Try experimenting with old clothes and bold colors. Check with fabric or arts and craft stores, there you can find other things for more exciting ideas too.
