Travel Around the World

Guest Author - Aurora Mae

Thinking about your next adventure-filled vacation? Then consider doing something out of the ordinary-a trip around the world. There are many ways to make a trip around the world easier on both yourself and the people traveling with you (if any). The same rules apply to world travel as single destination travel, but there are some tips to keep in mind.

Travel in the off-season.

Start your travels in the off-season because prices are often lower and there are some great deals to be had.

Use direct flights whenever possible.

The more flexible you are on dates, the less stressed out you’ll be. Depending on how rural your destination is, you may have to change plans or routes without much previous notice.

Start your trip from a less expensive country.

Starting your trip from a less expensive country ultimately makes it cheaper. For example, if bought a round-the-world ticket in it would probably cost significantly less than buying it from London.

Visit strange places.

Be adventurous and visit locations that are far off the beaten path and that you normally wouldn’t visit. These locations often cost a lot if you buy a full ticket there, but almost nothing if you buy a round-the-world ticket. Examples include places like Africa, Asia, and much of Oceania.

Mileage calculators are your friend.

Six, use a mileage calculator to maximize your travel route and you can gain lots of extra miles that you might have missed otherwise.

Join a frequent flyer program.

Join a frequent flyer program; by the time you get back you’ll have earned enough miles for one free ticket or even two if you have already existing miles saved up.

Watch out for surcharges and taxes.

Surcharges and taxes usually aren’t included in the price of a round-the-world ticket, and can cost up to hundreds of dollars. Some countries charge twice as much tax as others, so pay attention and shop around for the best deal.

Traveling the world shouldn’t be a spur of the moment adventure; it should be a carefully planned trip that has a specific itinerary, including a beginning and returning date. Of course, the itinerary can be broken, but it should be planned because it forces you one, to research the location you’re visiting, and two, to get to know the local customs of people in the area.
