Land of the Lost - 2009
Guest Author - Shanita Alexander

Catching a flick is an awesome thing to do during the summer months. Either alone (like anyone does that nowadays) or with friends and maybe even family. Yes family! Going to the movies can be a good plan when you don't have anything to do on those hot summer days. Splurging on the sweet yet expensive snacks. Not to mention you can chill in the freezing air conditioning. With teens all around, movies tend to be very popular during the summer months. One comedy you may want to check out is Land of the Lost. It is based on the 1991 half-hour Saturday, childrens television series, Land of the Lost. It detailed the adventures of the Marshall family who are trapped in an alternative world filled with dinosaurs and primate type people called Pakuni. The 1991 series ran until 1993 and was a remake based on the original series from 1974!

Starring funny man, Will Ferrell as the scientist Dr. Rich Marshall who is sucked into a worm hole and placed back through time. Dr. Marshall is unarmed and has very few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternative universe full of dinosaurs and creatures from beyond our world, a place of unusual sights.

Vacuumed alongside him for the adventure are not so smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and an outspoken survivalist (Danny McBride) named Will. Chased by T. rex and stalked by painfully slow reptiles known as Sleestaks, Marshall, Will and Holly must rely on their only friend, a primate called Chaka (Jorma Taccone), to help them navigate out of the hybrid dimension. Escape from this routine expedition gone awry and they're heroes. Get stuck, and they'll be permanent refugees in the Land of the Lost.

The ratings aren't that great but anything with Will Ferrell is just about guaranteed to have you laughing your head off. Just like every other action/fantasy comedy, this too will produce t-shirts, animated dinosaurs, video games, etc. etc. etc. You'll be so bombarded with the all the commercialism you won't have a choice but to go see it. The movie soundtrack features composer, Michael Giacchino and will be released on June 9, 2009. The movie is rated PG-13 and opens in theaters on June 5, 2009. Check it out!
