Home Made Valentine Day Creams & Lotions
Valentine's Day Lotions are on the menu this Valentine's Day! In a previous article we discussed making Valentine's Day Bath Salts. Why not combine the two ideas and give these unique personal gifts to those close to you on Valentine's Day. We've received a few request from readers asking about home made lotions, oils, body scrubs. So, I thought I'd delve into this idea, research it, and find a few good formulas to share with readers.
Sweet Almond Hand Cream
1/4 cup Almond Oil
1/4 cup Bees Wax
1/4 cup Honey
1/4 cup Petroleum Jelly
1/4 cup Glycerin
2 Tables Liquid Lecithin
Most of the ingredients can be easily purchased at local health food stores. Or make a search online at a search engine like Google. Type in the product name and have a look at the results. Once you've gathered all the ingredients together go over them again to make sure they are all there in the right quantities. Experiment around until you get the right consistency and amount for your purposes.
First take the bees wax and petroleum jelly and place them in the double boiler over a low flame. Let the ingredients melt slowly. Add the remaining ingredients to the double boiler and let them heat for about 5 minutes or until the mixture is smooth. Pour into a decorative heat resistant container while it is still hot. The mixture should harden once it has cooled off.
Dry Skin Body Lotion
This home made lotion formula is especially suited for those of us with dry skin.
1 Cup Aloe Vera Gel
1 Teaspoon Lanolin
1 Teaspoon Vitamin E Oil
1/3 Cup Coconut Oil
1/2 Ounce Bee's Wax
3/4 Cup Almond Oil
1 teaspoon favorite essential oil (jasmine, almond, lavendar)
First take the Aloe Vera Gel, Lanolin, Vitamin E Oil and place them in a blender. Take coconut oil and bees wax and place in Pyrex measuring cup. You are going to microwave them on high for about 30 seconds, stir, then repeat, until completely melted. Stir in the olive oil and repeat if needed. Run the blender on low and pour in the melted oil. When th oil starts to blend in the mixture should turn a creamy white. Once the mixture is at a thick consistency stop the blender. Then add essential oils and pulse blend for a few seconds. Then pour the mixture into a container and cap before it cools.
Presentation is also the key to making this a perfect gift. Look for decorative jars and other containers at discount stores like Target or even the dollar stores in your area. Add a colorful bow and gift tag to complete the look.
