Exotic Travel Destinations on Africa's Western Cape - Yzerfontein
Guest Author - Aurora Mae

Vacationing and travel to Yzerfontein is popular because of warm, hospitable residents, miles of white sandy beaches, gorgeous fauna and flora, and amazing views. It is a small fishing village located off the Western Cape of South Africa on the Atlantic Ocean. It is mostly sunny year round and there is much to do and see.

You can walk, rent a bike or a car, or take a bus as you explore this enchanting little town. It offers slow, relaxing days and sweet, pleasureable evenings spent at the beach or a local bar or restaurant. There are also a number of activities to enjoy, including wale watching at certain times of the year.

Traveling around the town, you will find a number of things to do and activities to enjoy. Hiking, mountain biking, day tours, and travel to several hiking trails are great land oriented activities; for those drawn to the water, you can water ski, sail, surf and fish.

You can travel out to Dassen Island via boat, only several kilometers off of Yzerfontein's coast, and see its lovely flora and fauna. Take a ride to Pearl Bay Heights for spectacular views of the bay and its scenery. Better yet, travel there during whaling season and see the whales capering in the waves or calving. It is an awesome sight, and well worth traveling up to the Heights for the view.

Traveling to other locations near Yzerfontein

From Yzerfontein, other locations are accessible by minibus, taxirental car; it is about eighty kilometers to Cape Town and around fifty to Port Elizabeth.

Roads are the only way into Yzerfontein, and the nearest airport is in Cape Town to the south.

Eating

There are many restaurants and cafes to be had, as well as several bars and nighttime venues. From sea food to hamburgers, there is a variety of restaurants that cater to any taste. There are also markets if you choose to buy and cook your own food.

Lodging
There are a number of excellent guest houses, Bed & Breakfasts, and hotels for travelers to choose from in Yzerfontein, though price and availability tends to be limited in the high tourist seasons. There are both economy lodges and top-notch, luxurious hotels, so everyone will find something suitable.
