Infants can get GERD (Gastro esophageal reflux disease), which is the upward movement of food; all stomach contents, plus stomach acid. GERD goes from the stomach up into the mouth and sometimes out of the mouth.

CAUSE: The largest cause is a poorly coordinated tract.

PROBLEMS THAT GERD CAUSES: GERD can affect their nerves, brain, or muscles due to an immature digestive system.

How long does GERD last in infants? Most infants get rid of this disease on or at about 1 year old. It can be managed easily.

MOST COMMON SYMPTOMS:

• Frequent or recurrent vomiting
• Frequent or persistent cough
• Refusing to eat
• Difficulty in eating
• Choking or gagging with feeding
• Heartburn, gas, abdominal pain, colicky behavior
• Frequent crying and fussing
• Regurgitation
• Re-swallowing

HOW IS GERD DIAGONOSED IN INFANTS?

GERD CAN CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS:

• Colic
